Nag - Helium Messiah tape

Nag are back! Or at least frontman and songwriter Brannon Greene is. He’s flying solo, backed by a drum machine and filtered through a vocal pitch shifter (hence the title “Helium Messiah”). Nag’s signature brand of sinister punk is taken to a new level here, as the stripped-down recordings (originally meant to be demos) and new textures manifest a distant, otherworldly mood. At times akin to Solid Space’s “Space Museum” or Wire’s “Chairs Missing”, “Helium Messiah” inhabits that liminal state between wakefulness and sleep where unsettling emotions and half-forgotten dreams impose themselves. As our planet’s outlook becomes more benighted and millenarian every day, this cassette harnesses the moment in a primordial way. 8 tracks (16 minutes) of strange punk. Limited to 100 copies.
